Where Has Spring Gone (to the tune of Qing Ping Yue)

by Huang Tingjian (1045 - 1105)

Where has spring gone?

Being alone, she hasn't much choice of routes.

If anyone knows where she is,

Tell her to come and stay with me.

Spring has left no trail behind;

We might ask the oriole if she knows.

She twitters, twitters and twitters-

A language no one understands.

So, she too, leaves me,

Flying across the bed of roses.
